Q) Why might I have Counselling?
We all cope differently with our own personal difficulties. Most of us pretend that everything is alright - when it isnt. Everyone experiences anxiety and sadness to a certain degree at some stage in their life and asking for help is NOT a sign of weakness but a useful step in managing your mental well being. Counselling helps us to understand our problems and view points of other people instead of hoping the difficulties will go away, only for them to resurface at a later stage.
Q) How do you assess my difficulties?
When you first come to counselling you will have an assessment, this is where we gather information relating to the difficulties you might have been having. You will also be asked to complete some questionnaires. Throughout the counselling we will regularly check with you that it is meeting your needs and if you are finding it helpful. It is important for you to take control of what problems you would like to talk about.
Q) How can counselling help?
Counselling can help you to cope with the particular difficulties you struggle with. It gives you time to talk about the many thoughs and feelings that are making it difficult for you. It teaches you ways to relax and how to restore a sense of balance and control within your life. It also teaches you to find your own solutions to your problems and gain a greater understanding of your feelings and actions.
